Pavithra Gowda has been heavily involved in the murder case of Renukaswamy, a Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa fan. The incident took place on June 8, 2024, when Renukaswamy was kidnapped and murdered after sending obscene messages to Gowda, which reportedly enraged Darshan.

During the period  of investigation, it came to light that Gowda was an eyewitness at the torture spot of Renukaswamy. According to multiple sources, she provoked Darshan and others to punish Renukaswamy for his crime. After committing the murder, Gowda along with Darshan and several of his associates were arrested on 11 June 2024. The police submitted a chargesheet in which Gowda was found to be the main accused of the case.

On 13 December, 2024, after six months the Karnataka High Court of detention released Gowda and Darshan on bail. During the court hearings, the violent nature of the murder was emphasized, but questions were also raised about the evidence against them. Gowda’s defense stated that there was no conspiracy to murder Renuka Swamy and that she was not involved in the assault that led to the death.
